Top Companies Hiring Now for Thousands of Jobs (Like Ford, Intel, Daimler, Microsoft, UnitedHealth Group, Lowe's and Home Depot)

With the job market being as tight as it is, we thought we'd track down the latest information for the businesses, organizations, and industries now hiring.

As tough as it is these days searching for a job, news keeps coming in of companies with hundreds if not thousands of openings. And while a thousand new jobs, might not be enough to put the millions of unemployed Americans back on the job, it is a step in the right direction.

Where possible we've tried to pinpoint what areas of the country will be most affected by these hirings, so that you can determine which opportunities are most relevant to your current job search.

Most Recent

Ford Focus Suppliers Add 5,500 New Jobs

One of the important things to remember about the recovery of the American auto industry is that when one model is a hit, it's not just good news for the specific manufacturer that puts it out -- it means more profits and more jobs for all the companies that provide parts.

Such is the case with Ford's new Focus, a global car which is expected to add at least 5,500 new jobs to the economy. Companies such as Robert Bosch LLC will be making parts for the new Focus.

Intel Taking on 4,000

A new $5 billion-plus manufacturing plant in Chandler, Ariz., along with increased demand, are sending semiconductor giant Intel on a hiring spree of more than 4,000 workers that should last all the way through 2011.

With more than 15,000 workers in Oregon, Intel is already that state's largest private employer. While many of the new Intel jobs will be in Arizona, a number will be located in Oregon, as well as in New Mexico, where Intel also has a major presence.

10,000 Auto Jobs Open at Daimler

The good news is that one auto manufacturer is doing so well it's looking to hire 10,000 new employees in the next year. The not-so-good news is that you might need to speak German if you'd like to apply for some of the positions.

Microsoft Adding Thousands

It's a great time for techies. First Google announces they're hiring 6,000, and now Microsoft says they want to add an additional 2,400 software engineer and research positions by the end of the year, according to a recent post on FINS.com. Those jobs will be located all over the world, and will be filled as soon as they can find suitable candidates.

UnitedHealth Group Has Hundreds of Openings

Everyone knows that that health care industry is one of the few areas that has been consistently hiring despite the ups and downs facing the rest of the economy. But many people forget that you don't have to be a doctor, nurse, or a licensed health care technician to work in the industry.

UnitedHealth Group, for example has openings for jobs in information technology, accounting, marketing.

Lowe's To Take On Over 50,000

Not to be outdone by Home Depot, which announced yesterday it will hire more than 60,000 seasonal workers, Lowe's, the smaller home improvement store chain, is hiring 50,000 seasonal workers for its retail stores. That's up from the 43,000 temporary workers they brought in last year, and represents a 16 percent increase, according to various newspaper reports.

Home Depot to Employ 60,000

The new jobs may be seasonal, part time and temporary, but the 60,000 jobs Home Depot is offering right now total more than all new jobs created in the entire nation last month (36,000). Savvy and engaged employees will be able to convert those part time jobs into full time work -- with benefits.

The 10 Hottest Private Companies in Tech

SecondMarket, a firm that facilitates alternative investments, has shared with Mashable (Mashable) a list of private companies its buyers and potential buyers were most interested in this year. The list is based on the percentage who indicated they were interested in each company.
  • 1. Facebook (): More than 25% of the firm’s buyers and potential buyers indicated that they were interested in Facebook. With the company reportedly on track to bring in $2 billion in revenue this year and attracting 81% of Gen Yers daily, it’s easy to see why.
  • 2. LinkedIn (): Last month, the professional social networking platform announced that it was adding a member every second to its 85 million-person community. Earlier this year, estimates placed LinkedIn’s valuation at $2 billion.
  • 3. Twitter (): Twitter finally tried to make money this year with promoted tweets, and it bodes well that beta testers are finding the new marketing channel valuable. The company just raised another $200 million that values it at a reported $3.7 billion.
  • 4. Zynga: The New York Times pondered whether Zynga might be the “Google () of Games” this year. The company has more than 45 million active users on its social games like FarmVille and Mafia Wars.
  • 5. Craigslist (): Craigslist makes money on recruitment listings, and it used to make money on adult services listings. Alas (for Craigslist, at least), the questionably legal section that expected to comprise about 30% of its revenue was shut down yesterday.
  • 6. Groupon: Google was willing to pay $5.3 billion for the group-buying company, which has about an $800 million annual gross revenue run rate.
  • 7. Yelp (): This year Yelp took new funding and challenged Foursquare () and Groupon with new features.
  • 8. SecondMarket: Given that the investors who indicated SecondMarket was an interest were signing up to buy through SecondMarket, this one isn’t a surprise.
  • 9. Pandora (): Pandora reported its first profitable quarter — and $50 million in revenue — at the end of 2009. Earlier this year, a Wall Street analyst predicted the company’s 2010 revenue would reach $100 million.
  • 10. Bloom Energy: Building a refrigerator-sized box that can power a whole house with sand-based fuel cells will inevitably attract some attention from investors. Before the Bloom Box launch, it’s rumored that the company had already won more than $400 million in funding.
Do you agree with SecondMarket’s users? What companies would you add to this list? Tell us in the comments below.

7 Great Side Jobs for Extra Cash

Strapped for cash? Many people are in these trying times. With growing unemployment, salary cuts, and the rising cost of living, plenty of Americans are seeking additional avenues to increase cash flow. Check out these seven hot side jobs that can be done around your 9-to-5 and with skills you may already have.

1. Medical Transcription.
Are you a fast typist with excellent grammar and a medical background? If so, medical transcription may be for you. An added perk is that you can do it from home! This job often calls for at least one year's experience in a hospital or clinical setting; some ads require transcription experience. Tools you will need for this job likely include high-speed Internet and Microsoft 2000 software. You should also be prepared to take a skills test.
Medical transcriptionist median salary per hour: $13.78.

No matter where the economy stands, things still break that must be fixed. When you are good at fixing things, word travels fast. It's possible to make a small mint fixing cars, installing water heaters, and doing home electrical and plumbing jobs. Consider how much a full-time car mechanic or a plumber charges. Even if you discount your rate, the pay is still good, and customers feel like they got a deal. From painting to fence-building, there are plenty of household jobs many people can't do or simply don't want to.
Handyman median salary per hour: $17.33.

Even in a recession people don't skimp on their furry loved ones. Therefore, being a dog walker can be an easy sell, especially for other people who need to work two jobs to make ends meet. The double bonus here is you can get great exercise while racking up extra bucks. You can also walk dogs before or after your full-time job.
Dog walker median salary per hour: $16.29.

4. Wills/Medical Power of Attorney.
While planning for the inevitable can be upsetting, it provides a way for attorneys to make extra side income. Lawyers can get up to speed on formulating simple wills and living trusts without too much effort. Completing these documents is something most people agree is essential but have not checked off their 'to-do' list. Talk to friends, church members, and neighbors to generate clients. Potential clients are likely working or have other commitments just like you. Therefore, being available outside of business hours makes meeting up more convenient for everyone involved.
Attorney median salary per hour: $55.66.
5. Income Tax Preparer.
Tax season is here so why not cash in? Preparing income taxes is one of the most dreaded have-tos among Americans. There are plenty of people who would be glad to pass off their tax preparations to someone else if for no other reason than the fear of being audited. Donald Cheatham, owner of DC Tax Group, turned his side job into a small side business. He chose this off-hours gig because of the high demand and he enjoys accounting and the extra money. "I work 50 to 60 hours a week on my main job [as an accountant] and another 25 to 35 hours a week for my part-time job during tax season. So it gets a little hard at times and usually sleep is the one thing that I don't get during tax season, but it is well worth it," says Cheatham, who started up in 1995 in Chicago. While it helps your credibility if you are a certified public accountant, this certification is not required.
The median salary for an accountant per hour: $18.19; CPA median salary per hour: $26.25.
6. Teach a Hobby.
Whether it is dance, tennis, golf, computer skills, or music, teaching someone how to do something you are good at and love makes working a second job less like, well...work. You can find teacher job ads at recreational centers in your neighborhood or advertise your expertise online and in local publications. With spring in the air, more people will want to get out and try something new or improve their skills.
Dance instructor median salary per hour: $18.58; Music teacher median salary per hour: $21.28.
7. Babysitter.
This job is convenient, especially if you have kids. After all, you can make money with them right near by. Offer to watch your friends' and neighbors' kids so they can take a breather, and they will love you for it. Another option is to help people who work nights. Finding a 24-hour daycare service is difficult to say the least. Caring for several kids on the same night can compound your earnings and get you extra cash more quickly.
Babysitter median salary per hour: $9.00.

Expected pay increase: 2.8%
The health-care industry is a monster under scrutiny that's undergoing painful changes and overhauls, but it's also an absolute necessity and offers a virtually endless supply of career options, avenues, and specialties to pursue.
